We attended a patient information evening at Nurture and were impressed by the professionalism of the staff; they were honest and approachable. We went ahead with treatment a few months later. The process was demanding both physically and emotionally without a doubt – but we were supported and well informed by the Nurture team throughout.
We were lucky enough to conceive our first child naturally without any difficulty. So when we decided to have another child and were unsuccessful for over 3 years, it was a frustrating experience. I tried acupuncture, going on holiday and ‘not thinking about it’ but the issue remained. After 3 years of trying we went through the NHS tests and were diagnosed with unexplained secondary sub-fertility. In a way, we wanted the tests to give us a reason why not, and then we could hopefully seek a solution. The unexplained diagnosis was frustrating. I felt so grateful we had a healthy child but as time went on, and more and more people innocently asked why we weren’t having any more children (assuming this was a conscious choice), the more difficult it got. We were told our options were to keep trying or seek treatment privately. Given we were both getting older, we decided to investigate IVF. On the day of embryo transfer, we were given the option of having 2 embryos transferred due to their grading. I wasn’t optimistic about our chances because of the embryo grades but was reassured by the staff that this was not necessarily the end of the road for us. Two weeks later we had a positive pregnancy test to my surprise and then 4 weeks later, our early scan showed we were expecting twins! Our non-identical twin girls were born 9 months later at healthy weights and we were absolutely ecstatic. Our family has been perfectly completed thanks to the expertise of the Nurture team and we couldn’t be happier!
I would encourage anyone experiencing secondary sub-fertility to explore IVF and to not feel guilty about wanting another child. Nurture certainly helped us and whilst they cannot guarantee success, they give couples like us the option of taking back some control. We cannot thank them enough!
